I just had a free half hour and so I took my computer and my cup and tea and went and sat on the verandah and read My Child Magazine.
I used to be a sucker for print magazines…and I still think there is nothing like flipping through pages of thoughtful articles or beautiful images, tearing out a page here and there, tucking away a photo of a bag that I want to investigate further, adding what looks like a good recipe to the clutter stuck on the front of the fridge.
However since I discovered blogs, I must admit I have essentially stopped buying magazines. Especially since Pinterest arrived on the scene, I find that I rarely venture offline for inspiration.
So the online format of My Child Magazine suits me. At first I found it a bit tricky to navigate but once I got the hang of zooming in and then moving the page around, I found it quite pleasant to flip through. My favourite aspect of the online edition is that the images are all clickable and take you directly to the retail website…so you can add an image to a Pinterest board or even purchase something special all in a few clicks!
My Child Magazine is aimed at pregnant women, new mothers, and parents of children up to age eight.
I found it full of lovely recommendations for products as well as inspiration for children’s clothes, rooms, and parties.
And I especially liked how mothers were not forgotten…there were plenty of articles on birth, raising children, and on wellness.
So.
Overall.
I liked the ease and the eco-friendliness of the online format.
I also like the spontaneity of it…I didn’t have to go to the Newsagent, it was there at my fingertips when I was ready for it.
Articles on issues like Active Birth and Crying, Soothing and Sleeping appealed to me and I found the advice given to be real and grounded in common sense.
Being able to click and be taken directly to an online shop is great…and more than a bit dangerous. If you are looking for a few special things, I would start at My Child Magazine…the pieces included were unique and I loved that the links worked and weren’t expired!
And it is free to subscribe!
Do you still read magazines?
