I am converted!
Ever since I mentioned that I was going to be trialling Sukin products, the comments have come flooding into the blog, Facebook and Instagram saying how much you all love Sukin.
And now I love it too!
Sukin was kind enough to send me some of their foaming facial cleanser, facial moisturiser and natural deodorant.
The foaming facial cleanser definitely foams! It produces a beautiful lather that leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean and not at all tight.
And the scent is lovely…I can’t quite put my finger on it but it is light and smells like what I imagine a flowering orange tree would smell like.
The moisturiser is very creamy.
Since reading these posts, Toddler C’s godmother has purchased some Sukin products and while she likes the cleanser, she finds the moisturiser entirely too thick…she is now using it as a hand cream.
My skin tends towards dry so I don’t mind the thickness of the cream but even for me it is almost too heavy to wear in the hot and humid Queensland summer.
It does absorb quickly and I am not left feeling greasy…I think it will be perfect for autumn, winter and spring but I might look for something lighter for the summer months.
The natural deodorant took some getting used to.
Even now, more than two weeks into this trial, I don’t know if I am totally comfortable with it.
The deodorant itself smells wonderful…the same fresh fragrance as the cleanser.
But I don’t know if I smell wonderful.
I have had friends do sniff tests and I have tried to smell myself and I know I don’t have any serious
body odour.
I know that I do get a dampness in my armpits if I exert myself.
And I know that I do have a smell by the end of the day…like I said I don’t think it is a bad smell…I think I just smell like myself.
But it is definitely a change from the complete absence of perspiration and smell that I am accustomed to.
That being said, feeling a bit sweaty and smelling a bit more human are certainly not reasons enough for me to switch back to commercial deodorants.
A few readers have commented mentioning that it does take your body some time to adapt to natural deodorants so hopefully the end of this adjustment period combined with some cooler days will make me feel more at ease.
I have listed the ingredients below and as you can see there are a few chemicals in the products.
Sukin does avoid the most potentially harmful chemicals including parabens, sodium sulfates, mineral oils and synthetic fragrances.
From what I can gather the chemicals that Sukin does include are all organic compounds made up of biodegradable molecules. This means that they will be broken down naturally within a short period of time…they won’t linger and accumulate in your body eventually causing problems.
However I am most definitely not a chemist and most of the articles on the ingredients found in skin care make my head spin, so if my understanding is incorrect, please set me straight in the comments!
As a company, Sukin ticks all the right boxes…they are Australian, one hundred percent certified carbon neutral, as I mentioned their formulations are all biodegradable and therefore grey water safe, their packaging is recyclable and made from recycled materials, they have a Choose Cruelty Free vegan status as they neither test on animals nor use any animal derivatives in their products.
Add to that the facts that they have a huge range that caters to different skin types including a special range for children and that their products are widely available in chemists.
They manage to do all that and their products still don’t cost any more than most commercial brands.
Like I said, I am a convert!
