The lovely “sass mouth” Stacey over at Veggie Mama shared her answers to these questions last week.
Now it is my turn!
Most days I don’t really consider what I do here on this blog writing…I type musings or simply jot down whatever is swimming around in my head.
But for the purposes of this exercise, let’s call it writing!
What am I working on?
Here on the blog, I am continuing as I always have…journaling what is happening in my life, beginning personal challenges and hopefully seeing them through, connecting with the lovely community that has sprung up around this space.
I am starting a new collaboration, The Kindred Collective…a community of mothers focusing on birth and women’s wellness.
I am also in the middle of a fairly major, yet unexciting, house renovation, which has left me feeling very thankful for modern first world conveniences like basic plumbing, hot water, washing machines, ovens, dishwashers, and the Internet!
I am trying to keep up with a busy toddler.
And the most exciting thing I am working on is growing a baby!
How does my writing differ from others of its genre?
I suppose as this is primarily a personal blog, my genre is me!
And as far as I am aware, there is not another blog about me out there!
Why do I write?
I just do?
I can’t help it?
Stacey mentioned that she writes in her head constantly. And I am the same way. In fact, until I read her words, I didn’t realise that there were people who didn’t have post ideas and sentences running through their minds all of the time.
I suppose the reason I write those thoughts down is to remember them, to share them, and often to gain the insights and inputs of others.
When I was in preschool, we had journals.
Every day we had journal time.
Some days we used our journals to practice writing our letters or our numbers.
Other days we drew a picture and then we dictated our thoughts about the picture to our teacher.
I remember loving those days.
I still love reading my preschool journals…seeing how my mind worked as a child, what was important to me.
I suppose this blog, my writing, fulfils a similar purpose?
I love going back and reading through it.
And I sincerely hope that when C grows up he will love reading through it too.
How does my writing process work?
It depends what I am writing about.
If it is a personal post, then I just sit down and write. Well…there have generally been thoughts swirling around in my mind for a few days, lines composed in the shower…and when I actually get a moment in front of my computer, it comes pouring out.
If it is a not so personal post, I might do a bit of what could loosely be called research before I write…I might read an article on a similar topic to gain some information and inspiration.
Editing is always done after the fact…usually a few days later when I am replying to comments and notice a typo or two!
I am passing the torch over to these three!
Bettina blogs over at Little Old Souls. She is creative and real.
Slapdash Mama makes me laugh and laugh. She is smart, quick, and witty. My favourite combination.
Faux Fuschia needs no introduction. She is such a good person and such a good friend. I am grateful that she is in my life.
If anyone else wants, to join in, please do! I would love to read about your motivation for writing.
Be sure to leave a link to your post in the comments.
Also, Maxabella has a whole “Why I Write” link up going if you want to read more about writing!
